Download

Synscapes consists of in total 337GB of image and annotation data structured as described under dataset layout. To enable download, the dataset is shared as a .tar.gz file split into smaller 5GB chunks using the split command found in most Linux distributions. In order to download Synscapes you need to download all individual chunks linked to below and uncompress the archive.

Step 1 - downloading Synscapes

Download all the 5GB file chunks from https://synscapes.on.liu.se/synscapes/, either manually or more conveniently using for example wget or similar.

$ wget -r -np -nH -A 'synscapes.tar.gz.*' https://synscapes.on.liu.se/synscapes/

The Synscapes archive consists of 41 partial files numbered 00 to 40.

Step 2 - extracting Synscapes

Concatenate the 5GB file chunks into the full .tar.gz archive using the cat command and extract Synscapes using tar.

Alternative 1:

   Extract the full intermediate .tar.gz archive and then Synscapes.

$ cat synscapes.tar.gz.* > synscapes.tar.gz

  Exctract the data set using the tar command.

$ tar -xvz synscapes.tar.gz

Alternative 2:

   To avoid extracting the very large intermediate .tar.gz archive, the output from cat can be piped directly to tar.

$ cat synscapes.tar.gz.* | tar xvz

Step 3 - use Synscapes

Synscapes is now ready to be used. For an overview of the layout and features of the dataset see: Dataset Layout, Features and Annotations.
